   A few months ago, Kevin Klement suggested to me that there was a need for a place for philosophers (and others in the humanities) to ask questions about LaTeX and have them answered by other philosophers---a place to get answers we can understand!

   Welcome to that place. If you have a question, just ask. Hopefully someone can help.

   How to use the forum

   Reading

   The home page (which you were just on) lists the most recent discussion topics at the top. If you see one you like, click it and read it. If you don't see what you are looking for, further down you'll see a series of 'Forums'. Forums are like categories for posts. If you are looking for help on a topic having to do with Linux, look in the LaTeX on Linux forum.

   If you don't see what you are looking for, use the search box in the top right corner to search the site.

   Posting

   You need to sign up if you want to post (see instructions below).

   • To post a new question/issue, just click 'ADD NEW' under Latest Discussions, write your post, pick a category (a 'Forum'), enter a tag or two if you like, and click 'Send Post'.
   • To reply to a thread, just put your comment in the box at the bottom of the discussion. (Take a look at the explanation of the markup you can use below the box.) Click 'Send Post' when you are done.

   Files

   If you are having a problem getting something to work right--a document to compile, say--you should post a minimal working example. That is, you should post a file that contains all and only the commands, etc. you need to replicate the problem. Look at this page for more on minimal working examples.

   In many cases, you can just cut and paste that code into the 'Post' box. Sometimes you'll need to upload a file. You can use the file uploader at the bottom of the page for that purpose. (But try to just post the file contents in the Post box as your first option.)

   Sign up

   If you want to make a post, you need to register. Just follow the instructions on the right-hand sidebar to sign up. It's easy.
